MWF Preschool News
Spring is on it's way! The tulips and daffodils the kids planted in the preschool garden boxes are already well on their way! We've got some very fun educational activities planned for the next couple of months.

*Fire Station Field Trip: One of my favorite field trips of the school year is coming up on March 28th! We'll be going to the Fire Station at 5051 South 1900 West in Roy. Preschool will be at the normal times. You may meet us at the fire station at 10:25 if you choose not to meet at the school. Please be sure to leave your child with a booster/car seat if you do not plan to drive. We will need two drivers, so if you'd like to join us, please sign up on the bulletin board. Any other parents and siblings may join us this day, too. It's free!

Value of the month: Citizenship: Using the rights and privileges one has a member of the community to make that community a better place; being socially responsible; obeying the laws and rules; doing one's part for the common good; respect authority; helping your community by volunteering service.” I will teach them the sign that goes along with this and discuss it with books and conversation during snack time.

Sight words for March:the, me, for, said, little, run, play
Just as a reminder: In January we covered I, in, is, it, we, up. In February we covered and, look, jump, go, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.. If you want to practice this at home, this is how we do it in school on flashcards: “This is the word 'up'. What is it? They respond 'up.' Eventually they will be telling you the words without you telling them. So if you happen to be reading books together and you see one of these words, just see if they can tell you what it is. :)

I have also been trying to work more on number recognition with the children. It would be wonderful if you could help me with this by helping them see the numbers in the world around them by asking your children what number they see on signs, in books, on boxes, food containers, etc.

What about May? My baby is due May 12th. And one never knows when babies will come. So I've decided to just go through the month of May as normal and utilize subs, such as Miss Rachel from January, to help complete the month if need be. :)

Calling all photos! Over spring break, I'm creating a fun slide show for preschool graduation and would appreciate any extra photos you want to send my way from the first day of school, Christmas program, class parties, field trips, etc. Share an album from Shutterfly or Facebook, post them to the Facebook page Learning Bees' Preschool, text, or email to zaranwrap@gmail.com as soon as possible.

A big heads up! Preschool Graduation will be held at the brand new Southwest Library in Roy on Monday, May 23rd! We will have a goodbye party at school on Wednesday the 25th for the last day of school.

Thanks for everything! Hope you have a great March!

Miss SueZan

MWF news
Welcome to February! We just started sight words in January. Sight words don't require the child to know the entire alphabet with each sound that's made, because they aren't “sounding out” the words. So what I have been doing (and feel free to do this at home) is put up some words and during circle time and recap time, I go through each one. i.e. I hold up the word “in” and I say, “This is the word 'in'. What is it?” And they all respond, “in”. This is the word 'up'. What is it? And they all respond, “up!”. I know it sounds a little crazy, but I promise it works over time. It's a technique I learned in a literacy group just out of college. To add to this method, I also will take them back through the cards and say each letter individually, “I-n, in.” And then have them repeat.

The sight words introduced in January were: I, in, is, it, we, up
The sight words I'm going to introduce in February are: look, jump, go, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
We are also working on building CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. They have learned an awesome vowel song and can now 'build' words. Try it with magnets on the fridge or while reading together.

Values of the Month: I really am loving the introduction of the value of the month. The kids have responded really well to the Respect and Responsibility values. And I have heard lots of stories from parents who are hearing the kids talking about/using it at home. Which is so great! This month we will be learning about Cooperation. I will teach them the ASL sign for Cooperation and we will go over it with books and discussion during each snack time.

Cooperation: Listening and paying attention to others, sharing and taking turns, doing a fair share of the work, acknowledging the contributions of others; serving others with patience and a positive attitude; working well with others.
*Valentine's Day Party!: We will be having a party on the 10th for Valentine's Day. We will be exchanging valentines and placing them in envelopes we've made. Just a thought:You may bring the valentines however you wish to, but we have been working a lot on recognizing and writing our first names by ourselves. Perhaps see if they can write their first name on all 10 valentines. :) Don't worry about filling out the “To” section. It will make it easier for them if this section is left blank and then they can play mailman and deliver the valentines into all the envelopes without worrying whose goes where. I also need two volunteers for the Valentine's Party. So if you'd be willing to help out with a game or the sugar cookie decorating portion of the party, please sign up on the bulletin board. :) Thank you!

**Papa Murphy's Field Trip: We will be going to the Clinton location near 1800 N. (Just in front of Lowe's) on February 22nd. We will have normal preschool hours. I could use 1 or 2 drivers that day. So if you would like to come, please sign up on the bulletin board. It's fun and free! And other siblings are welcome to join us. Just meet at the preschool and we'll go from there. If you do not plan to join us, please be sure to leave me with a booster seat for your child.

Thanks for helping make this preschool year great!

Have a lovely February!
