*PUMPKIN PATCH
The children are so excited for the Pumpkin Patch Field Trip coming up on Monday, October 19th! Please note we will start at 10, but will not be back til 12:30. I will have a volunteer chaperone list up on the bulletin board in the preschool. So if you'd like to help drive, please sign it. Other children are welcome to join us too! Please invite other siblings, friends, or nieces and nephews if you want to! (Just be sure to add them to my headcount list on the bulletin board).
All preschoolers entrance fee is already taken care of, as well as up to four chaperones. However, other adults, siblings, or friends brought will need to pay $4/person (This includes a pumpkin, snack, and time to play in the activity zone). Our time slot begins at 11am, so we will need to leave early from the preschool. Please arrive on time that day so that we can get kids situated, buckled, and leave no later than 10:15.

If you have any other questions, please call or text me @(801) 645-4077 :D

--You may also meet us at the farm at 10:40 if you prefer, but please let me know your plan so I don't leave anyone behind. Thanks! – Black Island Farms: 3178 South 3000 West, Syracuse –

**End of Quarter day for Weber County School District: I know that in orientation I had said we wouldn't have school on the days Weber County is out, but we will have already taken UEA off so I am going to still hold school October 30th. I hope everyone is ok with this adjustment for the month. :)

***HALLOWEEN PARTY: I need two volunteers to help with games for our Halloween Party. That sign up sheet will be on the bulletin board next to the field trip sign up sheet. I will provide the activity unless you have one you wish to bring.

ALL ABOUT ME POSTERS: In October and November in place of show n' tell we will be doing all about me posters. Have fun decorating it together. We will put them up in the classroom for the school year and then display them at preschool graduation in May. (You'll get to take them home graduation night.)

OTHER MONTHLY NEWS/REQUESTS: This month we'll be focusing on some colors and shapes. A great way to reinforce learning is to have the kids wear the color of the day or shape of the day. This not only will help them to register the knowledge better, but it is also a lot of fun for them to see that they are wearing what we are talking about! They get so excited! So I hope you will have fun with this. Also, please help reinforce colors and shapes at home, while you drive, etc. Test their knowledge and what they're learning. Give them choices with colors attached, i.e. “Would you like the red apple or the yellow banana?” You can also reinforce the letter of the day by trying to find it around you on billboards, street signs, or business signs. It doesn't have to be anything you go out of your way to do, but just in your everyday activities.

Thank you so much! Have a great October! And a Happy and safe Halloween!

NATURE WALK

During the last full week of September, we welcomed Autumn by having a nature walk to a nearby field in my neighborhood.  We gathered some items and attached them to paper back at the preschool.
Tyce made stems and twigs into his name
Snack time at the fieldWe read the books, It Looked Like Spilled Milk  by Charles G. Shaw and a few other fall books before our walk

S is for Snake day (Sept 21, MWF group. Sept 22, T/Th group)

This is a song we sang with snake sock puppets
Can you Move with Me?
Tune: Do your Ears Hang Low?
(Author unknown)
Can you wiggle like a worm?  Can you squiggle, can you squirm?  Can you flutter can you fly like a gentle butterfly?  Can you crawl upon the ground like a beetle that is round?  Can you move with me?  Can you flip?  Can you flop?  Can you give a little hop?  Can you slither like a snake?  Can you give a little shake?  Can you buzz like a bee that is buzzing round a tree?  Can you move with me?

Apple Recipes in the Kitchen
September 18th
We peeled and cored 3 lbs of apples and made applesauce from a recipe I found on a blog called The Pioneer Woman .  It's such an easy recipe to follow and the kids had so much fun using my apple peeler.

The apple skin (now a string) was this big!

Apple Book Day and Apple Tasting (T/Th Sept 17th)
We made an apple book with a lowercase a on the front
Inside were apple songs we sang and pictures to color
Here's one of them:
10 LITTLE APPLES
Tune: 10 Little Indians
1 little, 2 little, 3 little apples
4 little, 5 little, 6 little apples. 7 little, 8 little, 9 little apples.  10 little apples to eat!  Yum!
The students tried three different kinds of apples during snack and then I had them tell me their favorites.  Red apples was the most popular in the MWF group!

If you Take a Mouse to School by Laura Numeroff
Sept 11th MWF class

In the book  the mouse builds a house out of blocks and  then makes some clay furniture.  After snack time, I got out the blocks and had them make their own houses and neighborhood too.  We then used play-doh to form chairs and slides (like the picture above), etc.  It was lots of fun!

The second week of school

We talk about sharing, kindness, families, and how they are special.
The above drawing is of a student's family.

We have a potluck snack where the kids make a friendship trail mix of sorts.  Then dig in!  :)
We sing kindness and friendship songs such as
3 Kind Mice
Tune: 3 Blind Mice
(Original author unknown)

3 Kind Mice, 3 Kind Mice
See how they help
See how they help
They always share their corn and cheese
They always say thanks and please
They remember it's not nice to tease
Three Kind Mice, 3 Kind Mice
