September 2015 memories

NATURE WALK

During the last full week of September, we welcomed Autumn by having a nature walk to a nearby field in my neighborhood.  We gathered some items and attached them to paper back at the preschool.
Tyce made stems and twigs into his name
Snack time at the fieldWe read the books, It Looked Like Spilled Milk  by Charles G. Shaw and a few other fall books before our walk

S is for Snake day (Sept 21, MWF group. Sept 22, T/Th group)

This is a song we sang with snake sock puppets
Can you Move with Me?
Tune: Do your Ears Hang Low?
(Author unknown)
Can you wiggle like a worm?  Can you squiggle, can you squirm?  Can you flutter can you fly like a gentle butterfly?  Can you crawl upon the ground like a beetle that is round?  Can you move with me?  Can you flip?  Can you flop?  Can you give a little hop?  Can you slither like a snake?  Can you give a little shake?  Can you buzz like a bee that is buzzing round a tree?  Can you move with me?

Apple Recipes in the Kitchen
September 18th
We peeled and cored 3 lbs of apples and made applesauce from a recipe I found on a blog called The Pioneer Woman .  It's such an easy recipe to follow and the kids had so much fun using my apple peeler.

The apple skin (now a string) was this big!

Apple Book Day and Apple Tasting (T/Th Sept 17th)
We made an apple book with a lowercase a on the front
Inside were apple songs we sang and pictures to color
Here's one of them:
10 LITTLE APPLES
Tune: 10 Little Indians
1 little, 2 little, 3 little apples
4 little, 5 little, 6 little apples. 7 little, 8 little, 9 little apples.  10 little apples to eat!  Yum!
The students tried three different kinds of apples during snack and then I had them tell me their favorites.  Red apples was the most popular in the MWF group!

If you Take a Mouse to School by Laura Numeroff
Sept 11th MWF class

In the book  the mouse builds a house out of blocks and  then makes some clay furniture.  After snack time, I got out the blocks and had them make their own houses and neighborhood too.  We then used play-doh to form chairs and slides (like the picture above), etc.  It was lots of fun!

The second week of school

We talk about sharing, kindness, families, and how they are special.
The above drawing is of a student's family.

We have a potluck snack where the kids make a friendship trail mix of sorts.  Then dig in!  :)
We sing kindness and friendship songs such as
3 Kind Mice
Tune: 3 Blind Mice
(Original author unknown)

3 Kind Mice, 3 Kind Mice
See how they help
See how they help
They always share their corn and cheese
They always say thanks and please
They remember it's not nice to tease
Three Kind Mice, 3 Kind Mice
